Does God evolve?

very profound question.

what if God is not the master of time and space we imagine?

What if he's growing with us?

or it, or it's, whatever is beyond our comprehension....

What if it doesn't know the future any more then we do?

another post

Me: Well, science proves things right.

----

Josh R: Well since you are arguing semantics I thought I would chime in. Science proves nothing, it only attempts to explain things. I am willing to bet most of it is right, but it is also mostly theory.

Even such a well accepted concept as gravity (larger forces attracting smaller ones), has been explained by others as larger forces pushing on other ones. There is no way to prove one or the other, only observe the effects and draw up theories.

----

Ah, yes, but only the elegant theories are accepted. The ones that keep having to bend over backwards to meet new theories are eventually rejected.

Newtonian physics is a lot of theory, but since it works, since experiments constantly fit in with what he was saying, it's common place knowledge.

When you think about it, each religion contains many different theories. Theory of reincarnation, etc.

The problem is that they tend to be bundled in one package. That would be like taking on the theory of evolution, but being told that once you accept that theory, you have to accept the theory of natural selection, the big bang, and if you reject them all or any individual aspect, theres a theory that states you will go to hell for it.

At some point, and I'm too lazy to look through the old testament, someone in history, some dude in a cave, came up with the theory that having faith in God (believing in another theory), will allow you to go to heaven.

This must be old, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the fundamental properties of Judaism?

When I look at the bible, I theorize that it probably took thousands of years to complete from start to finish, and now I understand that both the Christian and Muslim religions have probably tacked on all of their theories to the original theory of faith.

That's a very good question to mull over. If God did ever clearly speak to these writers, at one point did he say, "Faith or hell" and what's been added/edited/deleted since?

yet again

I respect Jesus, I really do. I don't think he would lie, but I theorize about the disciples... think about it for a second. If you knew a guy that could stand against the crowd and say, "maybe all you fuckers have it wrong, here's a better perspective. One of peace, love and understanding.", would you lie to spread the message?

Because nobody would listen otherwise.

"Tell them we seen him walk on water, and make sure we all have our stories straight or they wont believe."

a hypothetical conversation held many moons ago.

Another post I couldn't bring myself to put up

I've come to the conclusion that any type of pluralism is impossible because we all have such different perspectives. Our individuality is so unique.

Just like trying to understand why a fanatic would kill himself and other people, I just can't see everything that he's seen in his life.

That is to say, that we should still try to help understand the world better.

Like any good debate, I've tried to see it from the other perspective, and now I realize the full implications of what I've been saying.

I've been extremely offensive to believers because not only have I been suggesting that everything you believe in may be wrong, but there are many things that tag along with that which is very hurtful.

I apologize. If your lacking in the love department, and you feel better believing that there are inter-dimensional entities that are cuddling you at night, then it is not my place to say they don't exist.

If the world scares you and you feel better with the belief that everything is meticulously planned out for you, well... I shouldn't suggest that's not true, because I don't know, but I do suggest thinking about the repercussions of expecting everything to be delivered in a basket as compared to working for them yourself.
If there is no hell, what is there to be saved from?
Although I don't quite understand what that has to do with Kevin's statement, let me share some discoveries that I've had over the past few days.

Everyone believes in a hell if you define it correctly.

Hell is the worst possible existence beyond this one. For some, it is an eternal fire, like some alternate dimension filled with pain and torment. For others, it's to come back to this Earth as a cockroach.

To me, hell is no existence whatsoever. To not exist at all. So Atheism, in my mind, is the worst belief system because they think that no matter what, everyone goes to "hell".

We all want the same thing here. To be the best possible person we can be to avoid the worst possible existence.

Trying to see things from your perspective, I know it's probably frustrating debating with someone that does not have any firm statements to argue against.

So let me give you some:

To say that there only 2 possible existences, one extremely good, and one extremely bad, then say that the only way to get the good one is through one and only one religion, is wrong.

This traps you within one line of thinking, and while there are some very positive messages in Christianity, there are also some negative aspects

I'm not fighting Christianity, I'm fighting those negative aspects. The only way to grasp this concept is when you say to God, "Ok, if you are loving and caring, then you wouldn't punish me for being skeptical, for using the logic and reasoning you gave me.""
Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the light
Maybe Jesus spoke the truth, but it's all down to your interpretation, your perspective. Jesus had a message of peace, it is one of the most positive messages from Christianity and a very powerful one that needs to be carried on and spread. Maybe "the way" doesn't have anything to do with who's name you pray to, but just living a good life.

From my perspective the best way to keep this message alive in this age where everyone is skeptical and looking over things twice is to rethink Christianity, to look at it scientifically.

Think realistically.

I wanted to post this in the www.castlepyros.com discussion, but just couldn't bring myself to say it. I have to tread very carefully on things that I want to say.

"the best human being you can be"

The message is clear, we all want this.

Something I realized recently is how pluralism doesn't work. Religious beliefs are like scientific theories. Like, a theory of karma, a theory that everything was created as is, a theory of one God, two Gods, ghosts, spirits, etc.

Picking a religion is like going to a restaurant. Where each theory is a side, and picking a religion has them all set up for you. Christianity and Muslims are the same in ways like you still have the heaven/hell thing for desert, just like Buddhism/hinduism has reincarnation, but Buddhist's have this enlightenment thing... I don't know honestly, I haven't been bothered to go too deep in to it.

Pluralism is like a buffet. And in the end, you would have any different combination, so how could pluralists ever get along on anything?
Life is all about perspectives. I see things in an entirely different way then anyone, ever. We all do. We all have our own individuality. Try to read the bible and imagine their perspective, where they're coming from, what it must have been like. And try to imagine all the different people and all it's translations to where it is today.

What messages don't belong?

Some do, no matter how true any stories are, to love and cherish everyone is a very positive message.

Some don't. Apocalyptic disasters that we can't stop is not a positive view. It's like knowing when your going to die but you can't do anything about it. Instead of bringing people together, it pulls people apart.

If the shit is ever going down. I just want everyone to believe that we have to work hard to stop it. That God wouldn't want his creation to die.

People sit around believing that God is controlling every facet of the world, but look around. The creation is so amazing, it controls itself. It's self-sustaining.

We have control. We have power, we have to use it in the right way. The power of knowledge, the ability to create. We are the comic book heroes of the biological world. So what is our purpose? Is our goal as a human race to spread life to other planets?

What if there was a God watching over us? Like we were pets? What if it was so impressed with us that it gave us a treat?

lol

who knows?
